in ohio right now. you look at that chrysler ad, you look at this desperate republican ad trying to convince black folk that the republican party are on their side. they speak down to voters and let voters understand the ways in which politics gets really, really messy at this stage of the game. >> it's not just the campaign, it's the character of the man. that's what's being exposed to ari's point. >> yes. >> by these ads. is that not true? if you willfully lie repeatedly to the electorate, what does that say about you as an individual? >> it doesn't speak very highly of you. again, i'm all about authenticity and truth in politics. i know that seems really, really crazy in the 21st century. i think the american electorate is with me on this. at the end of the day mitt romney has played with the truth fast and furious, as we said, many times on your show. this is the result, the six-point deficit in ohio. >> despite that misleading g-pad, he hasn't made any inroads in ohio, as we've heard. we've heard about this absurd ad in spanish to latino voters where there's the president li

production to china. >> chrysler c.e.o. said it's simply not true. >> will you endorse president obama? >> yes. his entire strategy is a in flame others. >> obama: we're all in this together. we rise or fall at one nation. >> cenk: hey jeb he wants to blame your brother because it's your brother's fault. he's the schmuck that got us into the recession in the first place. kind of convenient for you to forget. president obama is talking about how we all have to stick together in times of emergencies like we had in sandy speaking in wisconsin. >> obama: when disaster strikes we see all the petty differences that consume us in normal times all seem to melt away. there are no democrats or republicans during a storm. there are just fellow americans. >> [ cheers and applause ] >> cenk: all right now that's a very good speech there. it's true. it also helps his cause. i notice something during that peach. let's show you the picture of the president there in wisconsin. normally they don't have the presidential seal at the podium, they have his campaign slogan. now they have it at the podium and

lane as well as chrysler way. school is still getting back this morning, as well as what you mentioned on the government, but, again, we still have spots of high flooding and road closures. make sure you put time on your commute to get around the road closures. we're live in upper marlboro, tony tull, news 4. >> upper alexandria will see flooding as the potomac river rises its bampgnks. it's not over. high tide coming right up to several businesses, forcing them to close. >> scary to see, sad for all the businesses that are disrupted. like the starbucks over there, it doesn't look like their sand bags are high enough to stop the flood going in. >> news 4's melissa mollet is taking a look at old town right now. we'll check in live with her coming up in the next hour. >>> don't try this any time soon. montgomery county rescuers pulled one kayaker from the high water in seneca creek. that person was treated at the scene. no one else was hurt. >>> the fbi confirming that a stafford county home raided by federal agents is connected to a series of pipe bomb attacks in northern virginia. take

live with news for your money. >> reporter: good morning. auto makers like chrysler, ford, gm, will report october sales later today. sales are forecast to rise 11% from a year ago, which would make it the best october for the industry since 2007. analysts say monday's superstorm on the east coast likely led to the loss of about 100,000 vehicles. dealers should be able to make that up this month. and sandy may have been very bad news for homeowners, but it's bringing some good news to the residential construction sector. "the new york times" reports construction companies will be getting a lot of business. flood waters are pumped out of the neighborhood, power lines are restored and roads are clear of debris. they'll also be able to hire lots of workers. many of whom have been idle due to the housing slump over the past five years. guys, it's interesting to note that lumber futures on the chicago mercantile exchange soared yesterday. the trade there is framing lumber used mainly in home construction. >> thank you. >>> sam's club is helping recharge those left in the dark by sa

. >> obama took gm and chrysler into bankruptcy and sold chrysler to italians who are going to build jeeps in china. >> political contributor john avalon is joining us from youngstown, ohio. john, i understand that, first of all, there has been some pushback from the auto industry execs over the ad. how is this playing out? >> suzanne, it is fascinating. the auto industry here is a political issue, it is a personal issue, it is a pocketbook issue. it is very much a central focus of the debate. we have spoken to senators on both democrat and republican sides of the aisle, senator rob portman and sherrod brown about this ad. take a listen. >> i say it is the most disingenuous ad i've ever seen. they know better. they know the auto rescue worked. they know that ohio reasons connected directly or indirectly to the auto rescue and they know that governor romney and my opponent's opposition to the auto rescue, they're trying to crowd the issue and it is pretty outrageous. >> it is their game to the extent it is reported in the media and that's all they have said, there is reports this could happ

after romney' false claim of jeep outsourcing to china, chrysler itself has refuted romney's lie. >> joining me now from ohio is state senator nina turner. it's good to have you here. let's start at the very beginning with the ads from the romney campaign directed toward autoworkers there. and the latest ad, a radio ad, the governor's campaign also accuses gm of moving 15,000 american jobs to china. gmish u issued a statement. in it they say we've clearly entered some parallel universe during these last few days. no anount of campaign politics at its cynical worst will change our record. it's not just that romney is taking on the president in ohio, romney is taking on the auto industry. and how is that resonating with oh ohioans, especially the job market we know there is one of the better ones in the country. >> it is, thomas. i was listening to some of the governor's remarks and i tell you, it made me nauseous, absolutely nauseous to hear this talk about things like that. jeep is investing $500 million into that plant in toledo. they'll be hiring 1,100 more workers. the fact th

, unusual spectacle of the heads of general motors and chrysler rebutting campaign ads. >> right. >> from the romney campaign. they can say the first ad at least was literally true in the careful way it was wording, but it still got a pants on fire for being inaccurate. the general impact of that advertisement certainly was suggesting that jobs were going to be literally moved from ohio, jeep jobs, to china and that was not -- >> which the company denies. i've talked to obama advisors this morning who say, a, that would be a much bigger story, if not for the sandy coverage and that would be quite detrimental to the romney campaign. b, they wouldn't be running those ads in the first place if they didn't feel they were coming from behind there. there's no question the auto issue is important. interviewing governor kasic on "meet the press" said i would never side with somebody who wasn't a strong auto guy and didn't believe in supporting the companies. i think they understand that it's been an uphill climb in ohio. the romney campaign does. they like to think they're a lot closer here, but

. and also, you had gm and chrysler auto executives both coming out and condemning mitt romney. so the people who should naturally be supporting mitt romney in the last week of the campaign, they're actually supporting barack obama. and that's got to hurt. >> all right. thank you so much. i really appreciate y'all coming on. we'll see you in the next few days. thank you. >>> and developing news right now that we just referenced, janet napolitano is on the ground right now in new york city as major problems persist after hurricane sandy. lines two miles long just to get gas. >>> and we're told within the last hour, there's a four-hour traffic jam in the lincoln tunnel. we'll get a live update for you. >>> plus, congressman todd akin was abandoned by the national gop establishment over his, quote, legitimate rape comments. but now akin is putting hundreds of thousands of dollars into a major ad blitz. the question is where is the money coming from? it is just one of the things we thought you should know, and you can joinous conversation on twitter. you can find us @tamronhall and @newsnation. out today showed toyota led the way with a sales gain of almost 16%. chrysler reported its best october since 2007 with a 10% increase. g.m. sales were up 5%, while ford's numbers increased not quite half a percent. wall street headed higher after new reports showed consumer confidence and manufacturing on the rise. the dow jones industrial average gained 136 points to close at 13,232. the nasdaq rose more than 42 points to close at 3,020. those are some of the day's major stories. now, back to judy. >> woodruff: after devoting the first half of the week to hurricane sandy and its aftermath, the president returned to the campaign trail today. with the election around the corner, mr. obama received a surprise endorsement. with the devastation of the megastorm consuming his attention, new york city mayor michael bloomberg surprised the political world today by endorsing president obama for re-election. in a statement, bloomberg said the hurricane's cost "in lost lives, lost homes and lost business brought the stakes of tuesday's presidential election into sharp relief." he credite

that the chrysler will move jeep jobs to china. obama camp insisting that's not true. the problem is that you go back to the president's speech in ho had yesterday, he was not talking about the jeep controversy when he said voting is the best revenge. so that explanation doesn't seem topped. i think the bottom line is the president wants to shift the focus here, doesn't want to talk about things like that. what he wants to talk about is grabbing the mantra of change back from mitt romney. he's talk being how mitt romney is saying, he's the candidate of change. president obama is no longer the challenger. he's trying to take that mantle back by saying the policies that mitt romney is selling on the stump are really just failed policies of the past. not sort of any change moving forward. that's his case. the second thing he has, the obama camp is confident about is the ground game. they believe that if they can wrap up some of these midwestern battle grounds like iowa, wisconsin and ohio, it will be very hard for mitt romney to get to 270 electoral votes he needs to take this away from the preside

of the weather. the debates about the economy. the campaign having a tussle right now over chrysler and gm. when biden and clinton koim to youngstown they slammed mitt romney for ads calling this claim that they were moving plants and jobs overseas on production within of the most cynical political moves he has seen and raw here in the final weeks. every voting counting, the economy issue number one here in ohio. >> not often you hear like a big business speak out about a republican ad but i guess that makes gm look bad, too, right? >> no. yeah. but very unusual. they tried to stay out of it and very unusual for spokesman to unload that kind of harsh language against the romney campaign in this particular ad. >> john avalon from youngstown, ohio. today's talk back question. will sandy change the election? facebook.com/carolcnn. jobs, gm is back, chrysler is the fastest-growing auto maker in the nation, what is their response? it is outrageous, their response. in the last hours of this campaign, they have become truly desperate. i came from ohio -- they are running an ad in ohio and the following -- this is the god's truth. the ad they are running says the following -- it says that barack obama bankrupting the automobile industry so that it could be sold to the italians -- i do not know they have against the italians -- sold to the italians so they could offshore to china. that is what they are saying -- i am not making this up. ladies and gentlemen, here is the cynical part. just imagine, your from the upper midwest, my state is delaware, which was one of the biggest automobile producing states in the country. after all those guys and families have been through, hard-working folks working their whole lives, through no fault of their own because of the policies of the last administration in the last year before got elected, 400,000 automobile jobs lost. here is what is more important -- 400,000 people drop

's trying to help. and i think the jeep chrysler ads were just outrageous. i'm disappointed. i'm a senior. i'm 70. i'm on social security. we have worked. we have a lovely little home in cape cod. we did live in new jersey. we're fortunate enough to be able to retire. but i'm really disappointed in a lot of the seniors of this country who are so afraid that they are going to misbenefits and not be taken care of. and personally i feel a lot of seniors are extremely, extremely selfish and fearful. host: let's take a call from the romney supporters line in michigan. caller: just calling a lot of simple statements i have to make. previous callers one was benjamin in regards to romney addressing jeb bush as the governor. with all due respect, people address people in former last presidents, last governors, you always address them as governor, mr. president, what have you. i have to say i'm ashamed of being 40 years old and i've never voted in my life. but i'm a firm believer president obama got elected was because all the minorities decided to vote for the first time in their lives and that's why
